Weaving with Amiria Jade Art

Raranga / Traditional Māori Weaving

Amiria-Jade, a contemporary fibre artist, has deepened her connection to her Māori heritage through the traditional art of Raranga (Māori weaving).

She credits expert tutors for igniting her passion and skill in Rāranga, which she pursued diligently to become a proficient kai-raranga (weaver). Amiria-Jade looks forward to sharing her knowledge with others and continuing her growth in this field. She proudly traces her ancestry to Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu, and Ngāi Tahu.

Dive into the world of Raranga and discover the beauty of working with Harakeke (Phormium Tenax). Learn about the history of raranga (traditional Māori weaving) and the tikanga (customs and traditional values) associated with this art form. By the end of this workshop, you'll have created pieces that will endure for generations.

Jewelery making

Using various techniques and fibers, we can explore different types of jewelry making, including earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, based on your preferences. This workshop is designed to be free-flowing, where I will teach some basic techniques and then open the space for everyone to express their creativity using a mix of available materials.

All tools, fibres and processes are part of the workshops costs. We will also share a light lunch and have delicious herbal teas available.
